Jerome Coffee is so confident of winning the International Boxing Federation bantamweight championship against Australian Jeff Fenech tonight at Sydney, Australia, that he already has arranged his first defense of the title.
The 27-year-old Coffee (27-0) has planned the defense for his hometown of Nashville, Tenn., on Jan. 16 against Jesus Salud, who has just won the number 11 IBF ranking.
However, Fenech, a 21-year-old former street fighter from Sydney’s inner suburbs, is a 4-6 favorite to win the scheduled 15-round bout at the Sydney Entertainment Center. He has won all 11 of his his fights by knockouts.
