6-7 Forward Pitts Quits Team Tuesday
George McQuarn, Cal State Fullerton coach, has used the word nothing to describe the impact of the Titans’ inside game this season. And now he will have to get along with less.
Carl Pitts, the team’s No. 4 scorer (7.4 points per game) and fourth-leading rebounder (5 a game), quit the team Tuesday and dropped out of school. The 6-foot 7-inch transfer from Trade Tech, who was headed for UCLA but failed to meet admission requirements, was reportedly disenchanted with his performance and told McQuarn that he intended to “quit chasing the basketball dream and get a job.”
Said McQuarn: “I accepted what he had to say and didn’t question his reasons. It came as a total surprise to me, though.”
Pitts missed practice Monday, the first indication of any problem, teammates said.
