Chacon, Unable to Pass Routine Drug Test, Is Arrested for Violating Probation Terms
Bobby Chacon, former World Boxing Council featherweight champion, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of violating probation terms that banned alcohol and drugs.
The Butte County Probation Dept. said a routine urine test on Chacon found methamphetamine and marijuana, and a search of Chacon’s residence turned up open alcohol containers.
Chacon, 33, was convicted of wife-beating in November 1984 and was placed on three years’ probation. Four months later, he was arrested on alcohol-possession and reckless driving charges in Roseville, Calif.
In an agreement with prosecutors, he pleaded guilty to a parole violation and was fined $350.
Oroville Magistrate Brian Rix tightened the probation restrictions in August, ordering Chacon to stop using alcohol, participate in an alcohol-treatment program, submit to surprise drug and alcohol tests and refrain from patronizing liquor stores and taverns.
The restrictions were to be in effect through December 1987.
Chacon was WBC featherweight champion in 1974-75 and more recently held the WBC super-featherweight title.
