CSUN in Final 4 With Familiar Foe--Portland State

For the third straight year, No. 1-ranked Cal State Northridge and No. 2 Portland State are on a collision course going into the semifinals of the NCAA Division II women’s volleyball playoffs.

The Lady Matadors of CSUN and the Vikings of Portland State, who met in the championship match in 1983 and 1984, again have reached the Final Four, which will be held this weekend in Portland State’s Health and Physical Education Building.

CSUN (26-9) meets seventh-ranked Nebraska Omaha (41-6) in the opening match of a semifinal doubleheader Friday night. Portland State (34-5) takes on fifth-ranked Sam Houston State (45-6) in the nightcap.

Portland State, which swept three straight games from CSUN to win last year’s title on its home court, has won its last 21 matches. CSUN, which defeated Portland State in the 1983 final in Lakeland, Fla., has won 20 straight.
