McKay to Step Down, Serve as Buccaneers’ Consultant
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday confirmed reports that club President John McKay will resign his post at the end of the season and serve as a consultant to the club.
McKay coached the Buccaneers from their inaugural 1976 campaign through the ’84 season. He was then named club president and owner Hugh Culverhouse hired Leeman Bennett as head coach.
McKay, 62, coached at USC from 1960 through 1975 as the Trojans made eight Rose Bowl appearances and posted 14 consecutive winning seasons.
