Texas A&M; Players Refuse Interviews With Dallas Times Herald, TV Station
The Texas A&M; football team will not give pre-Cotton Bowl interviews to the Dallas Times Herald or Dallas television station WFAA-TV because of their independent investigations into alleged NCAA rules violations at the school.
The newspaper reported that some of the university’s football players received thousands of dollars in signing incentives and bonuses, weekly allowances, performance payments, car deals and other favors from boosters and coaches.
The television station reported that quarterback Kevin Murray had a questionable car lease with a major Aggie booster from Dallas.
In a prepared statement, sports information director Tom Turbiville said: “Each member of the Texas A&M; football team has indicated that he does not wish to participate in one-on-one interviews with any representative of the Dallas Times Herald (before the Jan. 1 game with Auburn).
“In accordance with those wishes, the Texas A&M; Sports News office has been instructed not to help arrange such interviews.”
Turbiville said the same policy is in effect for WFAA-TV.
