Darryl Dawkins of the New Jersey Nets has been fined $2,000, and three other players also have been penalized in connection with recent altercations in games, the National Basketball Assn. announced Thursday.

Dawkins was fined $2,000 and Indiana’s Steve Stipanovich $750 for fighting during last Saturday’s Nets-Pacers game. Scotty Stirling, the NBA’s vice president of operations, said Dawkins received the larger fine because he was judged to be the instigator of the fight.

In addition, Micheal Ray Richardson of the Nets and Roy Hinson of Cleveland were fined $500 apiece for their role in other incidents. Richardson was fined for slapping Detroit’s Rick Mahorn during a Dec. 5 game, and Hinson was fined for elbowing and swinging at Milwaukee’s Randy Breuer on Dec. 13.
