Slobodan Kacar of Yugoslavia scored a 15-round split decision over Eddie Mustafa Muhammad to win the vacant International Boxing Federation light-heavyweight title at Pasaro, Italy. Both weighed 173 1/2 pounds.
Kacar succeeds Michael Spinks as IBF champion. Spinks relinquished the crown when he defeated Larry Holmes in September for the IBF heavyweight title.
Kacar improved his record to 20-0, while Mustafa fell to 48-7.
