Brigham Young University faces Ohio State today at Orlando, Fla., in one of the more attractive matchups of the college football postseason.

The Cougars and the Buckeyes meet in the Citrus Bowl at 9:30 a.m. PST (Channel 4). In other bowl matchups, Georgia plays Arizona in the Sun Bowl at El Paso at 9:45 a.m. PST (Channel 2) and Alabama meets USC in the Aloha Bowl at 5:15 p.m. (Channel 11).

BYU entered last season’s Holiday Bowl ranked No. 1 and preserved that status with a 24-17 victory over Michigan.

Quarterback Robbie Bosco says that this season’s squad is even better, but this year’s Cougars cannot win the national title. They enter the Citrus Bowl with an 11-2 record.

The Cougars lost any shot at repeating as national champions on Oct. 26 in a loss to Texas El Paso.

BYU’s successor as national champion should emerge Wednesday in the Orange Bowl, when No. 1 Penn State faces No. 2 Oklahoma.

Bosco, who threw for more than 4,200 yards and 30 touchdowns this season and completed 66% of his passes, will severely test an Ohio State pass defense. However, Bosco threw 24 interceptions in 1985.

Ohio State (8-3) has a high-powered offense that is led by the passing combination of quarterback Jim Karsatos and wide receiver Cris Carter, and running back Keith Byars, a preseason Heisman Trophy candidate who played just three games due to injuries.

In El Paso, Tex., Arizona (8-3) and Georgia (7-3-1) are meeting for the first time. The Wildcats hope to offset Georgia’s running game with an aggressive passing attack.
