CHP Arrests 14 at Sobriety Checks in Two Counties

Fourteen people were arrested at two sobriety checkpoints in Los Angeles and Orange counties this weekend as part of a California Highway Patrol’s crackdown on holiday drunk drivers.

In the City of Industry, nine people were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after 692 drivers were stopped at a CHP roadblock on Valley Boulevard between 6th and 7th avenues, police said. In Tustin, five people were arrested on suspicion of drunk driving after 816 motorists were stopped at a checkpoint at 17th Street near Prospect Avenue, police said.

Both CHP checks were in operation between 10 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday.

On Saturday night the first such checkpoint operated by the Los Angeles Police Department was set up in the San Fernando Valley. “We’ll be stopping everyone,” Deputy Chief Dan Sullivan said. “If someone’s drunk and they’re stopped at the roadblock, they can expect to be jailed.”
