Local News in Brief : Driver Held in Crash That Killed Passenger

A 20-year-old woman was killed early Friday when the car in which she was a passenger crashed into a power pole in Van Nuys, Los Angeles police said.

The driver of the car, Ricardo Rodriguez, 25, of Tarzana was arrested on suspicion of felony vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol, Officer Larry Rumple said.

The passenger, Lupe Adame of Van Nuys, was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the 2:15 a.m. crash, he said.

Police said Rodriguez’s car was westbound on Oxnard Street when it crossed the center divider and struck a power pole on the south side of the street, just east of Cedros Avenue.

Rodriguez was treated for minor injuries at Valley Hospital Medical Center. He was then taken to Van Nuys Jail, where he was being held in lieu of $6,000 bail, officials said.
