Baze Rides a Record 118th Winner of Winter Meeting at Bay Meadows
Jockey Russell Baze tied the single-season record for victories at Bay Meadows by notching his 118th winner of the winter meeting aboard Bare Minimum in Sunday’s $54,600 The BART Handicap.
Baze equaled the single-season mark set by the late Juan Gonzalez during a much shorter meeting in 1973.
Bare Minimum, carrying 118 pounds, overtook French’s Luck in the stretch for a half-length victory, covering the mile in 1:38 1-5th.
Bare Minimum returned $3.60, $2.80 and $2.20, while French’s Luck paid $3.80 and $2.40. Bright And Right, third in a field of six, paid $2.60 to show.
