Singer Kate Smith’s Right Leg Amputated

RALEIGH, N.C. — Kate Smith, known for her rendition of “God Bless America,” had her right leg amputated Sunday because of circulatory complications due to diabetes, doctors and family members said.

Smith, 78, was in stable condition Sunday at Raleigh Community Hospital, a nursing supervisor said.
