Council OKs McDonald’s
A controversial McDonald’s drive-through restaurant has been approved by the City Council for the southeast corner of Colima Road and Whittier Boulevard. Angry residents nearby appealed a Planning Commission decision last November which gave the project the go-ahead.
Residents complained that the fast-food eatery would add to traffic problems in the area. But the council disagreed, voting 3 to 1 to deny their appeal and clear the way for construction of the restaurant, which could begin by spring. Councilwoman Sabina Schwab supported the residents, saying there are too many fast-food outlets in Whittier. She added that the McDonald’s would create a hazard at “one of the busiest intersections in L. A. County.”
