Polee, Gondrezick Pace Pepperdine Win

Senior guards Dwayne Polee and Grant Gondrezick scored 19 points each to lead Pepperdine past Gonzaga, 79-67, in the West Coast Athletic Conference opener for both teams Thursday night.

Gonzaga led, 47-46, before Gondrezick and forward Eric White scored four points each during a 12-2 Pepperdine spree midway through the second half.

Gonzaga pulled within five points with 3:37 left in the game, but the Waves sealed the victory at the free throw line when several Bulldogs made desperation fouls.

Gondrezick made eight free throws in the final 40 seconds of the contest.

Pepperdine made 29 of 45 tree throws. The Bulldogs went to the line only 11 times and converted 9. The Waves also controlled the boards, out-rebounding Gonzaga, 33-24.

White contributed 18 points for Pepperdine. Freshman forward Jim McPhee paced the Bulldogs with 15 points.

Pepperdine improved its overall record to 13-3 and is 1-0 in the West Coast Athletic Conference. Gonzaga fell to 7-7 and 0-1.
