Heavy low clouds and fog should evaporate by about 9 o’clock this morning throughout the county as a building high-pressure system nudges temperatures upward under blue skies.

Relative humidity was high and temperatures were slightly below normal Sunday and Monday as storms passing to the north influenced San Diego County weather, National Weather Service forecaster Richard Stitt said. Sunshine is expected to return today, with only a chance of occasional high clouds.

Sunday’s high reached 60 degrees, and the mercury didn’t top 63 Monday as clouds and moisture moved onshore from the Pacific Ocean. That typical January weather may give way to a warming trend today, forecasters said.

According to Stitt, drier air and higher temperatures should arrive today and stay at least through Wednesday.

Humidity, which was 60% to 70% Monday afternoon along the coast, is expected to fall from a high of 90% this morning to 55% by mid-afternoon today, Stitt said.

Highs at the beach, where the surf has decreased to four- to five-foot swells, are expected to be from 59 to 64 today and up to 67 degrees on Wednesday.

Sea breezes from the west to southwest are expected at 10 to 18 m.p.h. The ocean water temperature is 57.

Daytime coastal temperatures in the high 60s today may reach 73 by Wednesday, and lows at night should be in the 50s. The normal high for this time of year at Lindbergh Field is 65 and the low is 48.

Inland valley highs from 66 to 73 today may reach 77 by Wednesday, and lows are expected to be in the 40s.
