Leibrandt to Receive Award from Writers
Left-hander Charlie Leibrandt, who compiled a 17-9 record for the Kansas City Royals last season, has been named winner of the special achievement award by the Kansas City Chapter of the Baseball Writers Assn. of America.
Leibrandt, 29, edged teammate Hal McRae, the Royals’ designated hitter, in the voting by baseball writers, who present the award each year to an individual whose outstanding accomplishments deserve special recognition.
Leibrandt’s 2.69 earned-run average ranked second in the American League last season and his .654 winning percentage was second in the league.
