Duarte : School Land-Use Freeze
The City Council has passed an urgency ordinance that would prohibit any use of Duarte Unified School District vacant surplus property until a land-use study is prepared and considered by the Planning Commission and the council. The vote was 4 to 0, with Councilman James Coughlin abstaining.
The school district is reviewing possible uses of a six-acre parcel of vacant land east of the high school at 1565 E. Central Ave. The city is interested in the land because the surrounding area is being developed commercially and builders have expressed interest in the parcel, City Manager Kenneth Caresio said.
