Colorado Man, 20, Lost in Surf
A 20-year-old Colorado man apparently drowned off South Mission Beach on Sunday after strong currents pulled him under and out of the grasp of a nearby friend and lifeguard rescuers, a lifeguard spokesman said.
Coast Guard helicopters and lifeguard boats searched the waters just north of the Mission Bay Channel jetty for more than an hour in an unsuccessful attempt to retrieve the body, the spokesman said. The body was not recovered.
The man, whose name was not released by authorities, was wading in knee-deep water with three companions when he was dragged into the surf.
