A 17-year-old transient was shot and critically wounded by a Garden Grove police officer as the youth and two companions attempted to flee after allegedly robbing a fast-food restaurant. Sgt. Larry Ebelt said three men had entered a Burger King at 13992 Brookhurst St. and, after demanding money, tied up three employees. Officers arrived while the robbery was still in progress, Ebelt said, and Marcos Tovarcadena was struck in the hip by a shotgun blast as he ran from the restaurant. Miguel G. Hernandez, 19, and Jorge Martinez, 18, both also described as transients, were arrested. All three were booked on suspicion of armed robbery.
