Orange County College Baseball : UC Irvine Gets Second Straight Complete-Game Victory

Craig Brink pitched a complete game Wednesday to lead UC Irvine past St. Mary’s, 5-1, in a nonconference college baseball game at Anteater Field. Brink lost the shutout when the Gaels scored a run in the ninth inning, but his complete game was UCI’s second in two days. The Anteaters (2-0) had 10 all of last season. UCI scored twice in the first inning, twice in the second and once in the third to support Brink.

In other college baseball action:

UCLA 4, Cal State Fullerton 3--The Bruins’ John Joslyn went 2 for 4 with a double, home run and three runs batted in to help pitcher Alex Sanchez gain the win at Fullerton. Sanchez went 7 innings, struck out seven and walked three. Losing pitcher Mike Harkey had 15 strikeouts. UCLA took the lead with two runs in the fourth inning and held off the Titans, who scored once in the seventh and once in the eighth to make it close. Jef Garcia and Tony Trevino had two hits each for Fullerton. Both teams are 1-1.

Southern California College 12, The Masters 3--Senior right-hander Bret Otten pitched the Vanguards to the win in their season-opener. He struck out five and walked five before giving way to Tim Fortugno in the eighth inning. Fortugno struck out all six men he faced. Second baseman Lou McCullum was 3 for 5 for SCC. He had two doubles, three RBIs.
