Sari’s Heroine Wins Santa Ynez Stakes
Sari’s Heroine took the lead on the far turn and went on to defeat favored An Emperess by a nose in the $88,000 Santa Ynez Stakes for 3-year-old fillies Wednesday at Santa Anita.
Jockey Pat Valenzuela, who rode An Emperess, lodged a claim of foul alleging interference in the stretch, but the claim was disallowed.
Life At The Top, ridden by Gary Stevens, finished third another 5 1/2 lengths back.
Ridden by Alex Solis, Sari’s Heroine defeated seven rivals in the 7-furlong event and earned $52,000 for the victory.
Sent off as the 5-2 second choice, Sari’s Heroine paid $7.60, $3.80 and $2.80.
