More than 302,000 passengers rode on Amtrak trains from San Diego to Los Angeles during the last three months of 1985, a 17.7% increase over the same period last year.
Amtrak officials attribute the increase to cheaper fares and connecting bus systems in Long Beach, Oxnard, the San Fernando Valley and Bakersfield.
The San Diego service has seven daily departures in each direction. Round-trip fare from San Diego to Los Angeles is $25.50.
