England Wins Pancake Dash
An aerobics enthusiast dashed through an icy 415-yard course flipping pancakes today in 66.4 seconds to win the Kansas half of the 37th annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Race, but lost by 1.4 seconds to the English champion.
Kansan Shelly Welch, 25, donned a surgical mask to protect her against bitter cold temperatures of about 10 degrees. In Olney, Elizabeth Ann Bartlett, a 29-year-old mother of two who jogged to get in shape, won the English half of the pancake race, scampering through the 415-yard sprint in freezing weather in 65 seconds.
