El Cerrito man died Tuesday after his car collided with a Riverside Transit Authority bus.

Garrett Dyer, 19, died at Corona Community Hospital about two hours after the collision. He had suffered fractured ribs and other internal injuries, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Dyer was driving north through the intersection of East 6th Street and Rimpau Avenue in east Corona when he collided with the bus.

“The bus hit him broadside at the driver’s door,” Corona Fire Department Capt. Randy Hoggard said.

The bus, eastbound on 6th Street, partially crushed Dyer’s car and pushed it at least 30 feet, Hoggard said.

Corona firefighters gave Dyer cardiopulmonary resuscitation and removed him from the wreckage using a hydraulic device.

The bus driver and passengers apparently were uninjured.

“They (passengers) didn’t want any medical attention and didn’t want to go to the hospital,” Hoggard said.
