The Region : Ex-Deputy Admits Guilt on False Data

A former Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy, charged with misleading prosecutors about cases he investigated, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a public officer. Kenneth Redwine, 49, a 17-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Department, began dating a La Puente woman while he was investigating allegations that she had received stolen auto parts, prosecutors said. Charges against the woman were dropped after Redwine falsely told prosecutors she had passed a lie detector test. Redwine also conducted his own investigation of a friend suspected of assault and submitted a false report clearing his friend, prosecutors said. Redwine will face a maximum fine of $1,000 and a year in jail when he is sentenced March 31.
