Driver Killed at Barrier: A 20-year-old Garden Grove man was killed when his car crashed into plastic, sand-filled barrels set up as a barrier on the Garden Grove Freeway and the eastbound Brookhurst Street off-ramp. Kenneth J. Stoltman apparently turned suddenly in an attempt to make the off-ramp at about 12:18 a.m. Friday and struck the barrels head-on, a California Highway Patrol spokesman said. Caltrans engineer Charles Boyer said the barrels are designed to prevent an out-of-control vehicle from striking fences or concrete bridge supports.
