Marshall’s Simon Sets City Record With 69 Points

Marshall High School forward Jerry Simon had a record-breaking 69 points and 25 rebounds Friday as the Northern League champions routed Belmont, 98-61, at Marshall.
Simon’s 69 points (47 in the second half) were a City record, breaking the mark of 68 set by Doug Dunlap of Eagle Rock in 1964, and the 25 rebounds were a school record. The 6-5 Simon had set the school rebounding record of 24 earlier this season.
Simon, who will attend the University of Pennsylvania next fall, finished the season with a 37.8 scoring average in 10 league games, breaking the City single-season record of 36.9 set by John Starkins of Marshall in 1969. Simon and Starkins were inducted into the school’s hall of fame Friday.
