Tom Payne Is Charged With Rape in L.A.
Tom Payne, a former University of Kentucky basketball player whose professional career with the Atlanta Hawks ended after he was convicted of rape, has been arrested again for rape, Los Angeles police said Sunday.
Payne, 35, was arrested in Hollywood Friday on suspicion of forcible rape and was held in lieu of $40,000 bail, Sgt. Richard Beardslee said.
He was also placed on a no-bail fugitive hold reportedly issued in Kentucky.
Details were not immediately available.
The 7-foot-2 Payne was paroled in 1983 from the Kentucky State Reformatory after serving 11 years of a life sentence for rape and sodomy. He then started a career as a boxer but met with little success.
