Investigators said they have been unable to identify the body of a woman found near Interstate 5 in Weed. The city’s police chief, Charlie Byrd, said the body was being sent to San Francisco for an examination by forensic scientists. Byrd said the woman suffered major injuries, but he was unable to say how they occurred. The woman was alive when spotted by a passer-by, but was dead on arrival at Mount Shasta Community Hospital, Byrd said. The woman’s fingerprints have been sent to the FBI and the state Department of Justice. Byrd described her as 18 to 30 years old, 130 pounds, 5 feet, 5 inches, with brown hair. She was wearing blue jeans and a white blouse, but no shoes, he said.
