2 Critically Injured, 12 Others Hurt as Car Rams Loaded Bus
A suspected drunk driver, driving at a speed of 85 m.p.h., smashed his car into the rear end of a bus Wednesday, critically injuring himself and a passenger in his car, Los Angeles police said.
Twelve passengers were hurt aboard the Rapid Transit District bus, which was filled to capacity and stopped for a red light on Central Avenue at Slauson Avenue in South-Central Los Angeles. None were injured seriously enough to require hospitalization, police said.
However, the car’s driver, Norman Lewis, 38, of Lynwood, suffered a broken leg and a skull fracture.
His passenger, Eddie Wright, 37, of Los Angeles, sustained a broken leg, jaw and numerous internal injuries. Both were hospitalized in critical condition.
Lewis will be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.
