West Hollywood : Hours Extended at Two Parks

Share

The City Council, in an attempt to increase public access to city recreation areas and provide more public parking, has voted to extend the hours of operation at two city parks.

The council’s decision will allow West Hollywood Park and Plummer Park to remain open 22 hours a day, from 5 a.m. to 3 a.m. The parks previously had been open 17 hours a day. The decision means West Hollywood residents may park their cars for longer periods in the park lots.

Some residents had sought to keep the parks open around the clock, but the county Sheriff’s Department opposed the idea. Capt. James Cook, commander of the sheriff’s West Hollywood station, said the closing hours reduce transient traffic in the parks and lessens the chance of muggings and other crimes.

“We felt that some kind of break was needed in the night so that the parks wouldn’t fill up with people,” Cook said.
