PCAA Roundup : Anema Leads UOP to Win
Rich Anema of Pacific concluded a big week with a 21-point, 9-rebound performance Saturday night and led the Tigers to an 80-64 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. basketball victory over UC Santa Barbara at Stockton.
Anema totaled 87 points and 23 rebounds in three games, all UOP victories, during the week. He made 32 of 47 shots from the field and 20 of 23 from the foul line.
The Tigers finished the regular season with a 9-9 conference record, tied for fourth place with San Jose State, and will face San Jose in the opening round of the PCAA postseason tournament. UOP has a 16-13 overall record.
Scott Fisher scored 18 points, and Conner Henry had 15 for UCSB, which did not qualify for the PCAA tournament. The Gauchos finished 7-11 and 12-15.
Utah State 65, New Mexico State 63--Jeff Anderson hit a three-point shot from 35 feet at the buzzer in a PCAA finale for both teams at LasCruces, N.M.
Utah State improved to 12-15 overall and 8-10 in the league, while Utah State dropped to 16-11 and 10-8 for third place. Both will play Thursday in the first round of the PCAA tournament at the Forum.
Utah State was led by Greg Grant with 21 points.
