Applications for prospective residents of Lomita Kiwanis Gardens, a low-income apartment complex for senior citizens and the disabled, will be available at City Hall next week.

Residents must be aged 62 or older or legally disabled and must meet income requirements. Of the 67 units, six are equipped for use by those in wheelchairs.

Drawings to select residents will be held May 10 at the complex, with applications from the disabled and senior citizens being drawn separately. The deadline to apply is April 30.

The maximum acceptable income for prospective residents is $11,600 per single individual or $13,300 per couple. While the project is administered by Lomita Kiwanis and the Retirement Housing Foundation, funding is through a federal loan administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, which sets the residence requirements.

Located at the corner of Lomita Boulevard and Ebony Lane, the complex includes efficiency, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments.

Rents, subsidized by HUD, will not exceed one-third of the occupant’s monthly income.

Because construction has moved more quickly than expected, the original move-in target date of October has been moved up to August.
