BRIEFLY : Five Valley-Area Teams in Soccer Finals

Five Valley-area teams will play for Southern Section soccer championships today at Gahr High in Cerritos.

Agoura (18-1-2) plays Frontier League rival Calabasas (16-5-3) in the boys 1-A title match at noon. In the girls 2-A championship game, Agoura (20-0-2) faces Oak Park (14-5) at 2 p.m. Burbank (24-1) plays Esperanza (24-0-2) at 8 p.m. for the 3-A title.

Northridge Gymnasts at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

The Cal State Northridge women’s gymnastics team travels to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo to meet the Lady Mustangs today.

In a five-team home meet next Saturday, the Lady Matadors will play Alaska Anchorage, Sacramento State, Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly SLO.

NOTABLE

Cory Snyder of Camarillo singled, doubled, and tripled to highlight a 24-hit attack as the Cleveland Indians routed the Mexico City Reds, 18-4, in an exhibition baseball game Friday.

Vincent Ray, a 6-4 sophomore forward at College of the Canyons, will attend Hawaii Hilo next season.

Ray, a first team All-Mountain Valley selection who averaged more than 23 points a game this season, recently made his second straight appearance in the state tournament in games against Moorpark and Grossmont.

Cal State Northridge guard Paul Drecksel finished the season ranked 10th in the California Collegiate Athletic Assn. in scoring. Drecksel averaged 13.7 points a game. Troy Dueker finished sixth in assists with a 4.7 average. Forward Pat Bolden was seventh in free-throw percentage (77%).
