GUARDS Mike Hankins, 5-11, 165 Provides outside shooting when the Pioneers need it, taking the pressure off Don Maclean and Shawn DeLaittre inside. Teams cannot double MacLean as easily when Hankins is connecting on his jumper. Third on the team in scoring at 9.5 a game. Todd Johnson, 5-10, 155 The leader of the offense from his point-guard position. Had an excellent game against Capistrano Valley in the semifinals, handling the Cougar press with ease. That led to many easy baskets for the Pioneers. Tops on the team in assists at 6.7 a game. CENTER Don MacLean, 6-8, 192 Becoming more and more dominant with each game. Leads the Pioneers in scoring (21.5) and rebounding (14). In his last two playoff games, the sophomore has scored 28 and 30 points. Has a nice outside jumper to compliment his inside game. FORWARDS Shawn DeLaittre, 6-4, 175 Was at his best in the semifinal victory over Capistrano Valley, scoring 30 points. Second on the team in scoring (14.8) and rebounding (8.9). His presence in the post has made it difficult for teams to double-team the Pioneers’ other fine sophomore, MacLean. Tippy Wilcox, 6-2, 180 The Pioneers’ version of the Lakers’ Kurt Rambis. Wears the same number as the Lakers’ forward (31) and plays a similar game----diving after loose balls and serving as a defensive spark plug. Averaging 2.5 points and 4.4 rebounds a game. MUIR 27-2 GUARDS Kejohnna Owens, 6-1 165 A junior off-guard who helps the big men with his outside shooting, is not called upon to shoot much, but is usually accurate when he does fire away. Did not score in the 58-58 win over Dominguez in the semifinals. Derek Brown, 6-0, 160 A junior point guard who leads Muir in assists, averaging 12 a game. A good outside shooter, pumping in 7.9 points a game. Muir loves to run and Brown is the key to bringing the ball up the court. Also adept at running the half-court offense. CENTER Stacey Augmon, 6-8, 195 Probably the top player left in Southern California who has not decided what school he will attend next season. Averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds a game in the regular season. Was dominating in Mustangs’ semifinal win over Dominguez, scoring 32 points. FORWARDS Wayne Womack, 6-7, 168 A sophomore who transferred from New Jersey. His skills are not refined, but could be a top scorer next season. Became a starter in the middle of league and team has come on strong since. Averaging 8.3 points and 9.6 rebounds a game. Leroy McCullough, 6-5, 180 One of the Mustangs’ defensive specialists. Has come on strong in the second half of the season and is averaging 8.1 points a game. Not the main offensive threat, but gives Muir additional height on an already tall front-line.
