San Diego College Baseball : Erb Pitches SDSU to Victory
San Diego State pitcher Mike Erb went the distance to beat Nebraska in 11 innings, 3-2, at the Best of the West tournament Monday at Fresno State.
In the bottom of the 11th, Aztec Deron Johnson doubled off the center-field wall to drive in Tom LeVasseur from first to give SDSU (11-5) the win.
Erb struck out nine. Nebraska’s Phil Harrison (1-1) also pitched a complete game.
USD 6-5, Portland 3-3--The Toreros swept a nonconference doubleheader at San Diego.
In the first game, USD catcher Dan Echeveste squeezed home the winning run in the seventh inning. Kenny Duran (1-0) won in relief. The Torero’s Chris Bwy was 3 for 3.
Sean Baron’s hit his seventh home run of the season, a two-run blast in the third inning, to give USD (13-8-1) the lead in the second game. Starter Rick Faulker (3-0) went the distance. Baron was 2 for 4 in the second game.
