St. Anthony football Coach Ken Sharrar has resigned to become a graduate assistant coach at USC. Sharrar, 24, was the youngest head coach in the Southeast/Long Beach area last season when he guided the Saints (6-5) to their first playoff appearance in five years. He is the fifth area football coach to resign since the season ended. Roughly half (20) of all head coaching positions in the area have changed hands in the last 2 1/2 years.

OCC Names Workman

Bill Workman, 44, was chosen Friday as football coach at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa. A native of the Southeast area and graduate of Bell High and Whittier College, Workman beat out other finalists including Cal State Long Beach defensive coordinator Ken Visser. Workman posted a 109-33-5 record in 13 seasons as head coach at Edison High School in Huntington Beach. He replaces Dick Tucker, who will remain as athletic director and golf coach.
