HIGH SCHOOL SPRING HIGHLIGHTS : Buckley Robs Pacific Christian on 9 Steals

Buckley High stole nine bases and had nine hits as the Griffins defeated Pacific Christian in a nonleague baseball game Thursday, 9-4.

Buckley pitcher David Lawson, who came into the game batting .722, went 2 for 3 with one run batted in, a double, scored once and stole three bases.

Lawson, who is 2-1 on the season, pitched three innings in relief, striking out eight and allowing one hit. It was his first save of the year. Junior James Tweedie went 2 for 2 with three RBIs and two stolen bases for the Griffins (4-1).

Buckley’s Jason Weisstien went 2 for 4 with one RBI and two stolen bases.

Baseball

Oakwood 4, Bel Air Prep 1--Marc Williams (2-0) pitched his first complete game, striking out seven while walking one batter.

Providence 15, Salesian 4--Jim Recker and Adam Grant led the Pioneers. Recker was 3 for 5 with a double and four RBIs and picked up his first win of the season.

Temple Christian 8, Simi Lutheran 2--Lyonel Robinson went 4 for 4 with a double for Temple Christian.

Webb 3, Village Christian 1--Webb’s Scott Singelyn threw a one-hitter, striking out 11 batters.

Softball

L.A. Baptist 11, Marshall Fundamental 1--Michelle Ruffner has pitched six complete games for L.A. Baptist (2-0 in Alpha League, 3-4 overall).

Village Christian 22, Webb 2--Michelle Vail, who has pitched every game for the Crusaders, went the distance striking out 11 and allowing one hit.

San Fernando 10, Reseda 1--Sandy Alcantar pitched her second complete game for the Tigers, striking out two. Sandy Gonzalez was 3 for 4, including two home runs for San Fernando.

Poly 15, Flintridge Prep 1--Ann Fronholtz (4-3) in five innings struck out four with no walks for Poly.

Oakwood 5, First Lutheran 4--Oakwood scored the winning run in the sixth inning when junior Lisa Fragner singled to score Laura Gottlieb.

Royal 4, Camarillo 3--Trina Flores of Royal scored from third on a sacrifice bunt by Julie Myers that was mishandled.

Faith Baptist 12, Highland Hall 2--Eight errors hurt Highland Hall (0-3). Faith Baptist recorded four hits and two errors.

Hart 9, Glendale 3--Cyndi Smith (6-1) pitched her fifth complete game, striking out eight. Nicole Fox and Chris Yeates were each 2 for 3 for Hart (6-1).

Carpinteria 9, Moorpark 5--Wendy Womack was 2 for 4 with one RBI for Moorpark.

Newbury Park 4, Burroughs (B)2--Sophomore pitcher Christy Alves (10-1) of Burroughs lost her first game of the season but struck out 10.

Chaminade 1, Kennedy 0--Jenny Brown’s RBI single in the third inning won the game. Chaminade finished third in the Simi Valley Tournament.

Volleyball

Harvard def. Miraleste, 15-4, 15-5, 15-4--John Phelps had 16 kills and setter Chris Abbott had a solid match for Harvard.

Boys Track

Santa Ynez 75, Oak Park 21--Jason Stein won the 330 hurdles with a mark of 42.2 while teammate Drew Friedman took the 120 high hurdles in 16.0 for Oak Park.

Chatsworth 77, Canoga Park 50--Canoga Park’s Danny Arrias won the pole vault with a mark of 13-6. Quincy Sanders won the 100-meter dash for Canoga Park in 11.2.

Notre Dame 66, Crespi 61--C.J. Fisher of Notre Dame won the 330-yard intermediate hurdles in a personal best of 38.2 after winning the 120-yard high hurdles in 15.2.

Westlake 78, Thousand Oaks 49--Rick Welch high jumped 6-4 for Westlake, while teammate Mike Holcomb won the 400 meters in 49.7.

Poly 107, Hollywood 20--Jerry Gilmore of Poly set a school record in the long jump with a leap of 22-11, and won the 330-yard intermediate hurdles in 40.8.

Girls Track

Bell-Jeff 88, L.A. Westlake 29--Senior Noreen Flynn won three events for Bell-Jeff with marks of 5-2 in the high jump, 15-4 in the long jump and 32-4 in the triple jump.

Chatsworth 60, Canoga Park 49--Kim Petway won four events for the second straight week taking the 100-meter low hurdles in 15.68, 800 meter run in 2:37:01, 300-meter low hurdles in 49.2 and the 200-meter dash in 28.00 for Canoga Park.

Santa Ynez 98, Oak Park 21--Kara Bringard won the high jump with a mark of 5-2 and the triple jump at 33-5 for Santa Ynez. Paula Fraley turned in a 33-foot shot put for Oak Park (1-2).

Thousand Oaks 77, Westlake 41--Desiree Joubert won the 800-meter run in 2:17.7 and the 400 meters in 59.2 for Westlake.
