Carey Easily Wins 200-Yard Backstroke

ORLANDO, Fla. — Rick Carey swam to an easy victory Wednesday night in the 200-yard backstroke at the Phillips 66-U.S. Swimming Short Course championships. His time of 1:45.57 was .73 of a second faster than the second-place time of Hungarian Tamas Darnyi.
After two days of the five-day event, Mission Viejo topped the men’s and overall team standings, while Golden Bear of Berkeley led the women’s standings.
In the combined standings, Mission Viejo had 178 points. The new team from Mission Bay Aquatics at Boca Raton, Fla., was second with 122.
