Free Emergency Information Tags for Children Available at Markets
The small white tags look like flimsy pieces of paper, but they may help a child in an emergency--and they might even save lives, according to George Wager of Lifesaver Charities.
The tags, which can be sewn onto a child’s clothes or strung into shoelaces, were created by Wager to provide vital medical information to paramedics treating injured children. They can be obtained free through April at all Orange County Alpha Beta checkout counters. They also are available through several area police departments and parent-teacher associations.
Wager said he hopes to distribute 80 million tags nationwide and 10 million in California. All will be paid for through private donations.
Wager’s wife, Kathleen, said the information will stay permanently if written with a ball point pen. She advises that only the first initial and last name be used, and the label might include address, phone number, age, blood type, allergies, medication used, doctor’s name and phone number, and insurance company and policy number.
Tags also may be obtained by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Lifesaver Charities, P.O. Box 125, Buena Park, CA 90621.
