Clarkes of Torrance Make Soccer Honors a Family Affair

The Clarke family of Torrance is well represented on the CIF All-Southern Section soccer teams. Kevin Clarke, a midfielder for Bishop Montgomery, made first-team 4-A, while his mother, Nancy, who coaches the Bishop Montgomery girls team, was named 3-A coach of the year.

Two South Bay girls earned major awards on the 4-A team: Dianne Manore of South Torrance was named co-offensive player of the year, and Torrance junior Julie Jamile was named co-defensive player of the year. Bishop Montgomery’s Kit Schwartzman was named 3-A offensive player of the year.

The boys 4-A team also includes Ray Fernandez of Torrance, John Siskowic of Bishop Montgomery and Bruce Weisenberg of Rolling Hills on first team; Shawn Feiber of Torrance, Dana Kier of South Torrance and Marcus Wittmann of Palos Verdes on second team; and Dan Berthel of Bishop Montgomery, Joe Flanagan of West Torrance, Felix Guillen of Rolling Hills and Gerado Yepez of Hawthorne on third team.

Robert Harris of Simi Valley was named offensive player of the year and teammate John Spach was the top defensive player.

The boys 3-A selections include Chuck Ault of Miraleste and Joe Krebs of El Segundo on first team and Scott Rose of Miraleste on second team. Glen Hansen of St. Bernard was a 2-A second-team choice.

The girls 4-A honorees include Heidi Dinkel of North Torrance, Terry Lauchner, Shannon Maddock and Kelli Stevenson of Torrance and Stephanie Poncher of Palos Verdes on first team; and Kim Brooks and Monica Mautino of West Torrance, Denise Henderson and Laura Moses of Torrance, Lynor Johnson of Redondo and Heather Mauro, Andi Schoppa and Jana Stange of South Torrance on second team.

Manore shared offensive player of the year honors with Edison’s Joy Biefeld. Jamile’s top defensive player award is shared by Beth Hendricks of Alta Loma.

Along with Schwartzman, Bishop Montgomery placed six other girls on the 3-A team: Terri Doyle, Mollie Meehan and Julie Siskowic on first team, Mary Jo Soufl on second team and Dianne Masek and Kris Massaro on third team.

Chadwick’s Melanie Midget was named to the 2-A second team.
