Nigel Miguel, formerly of Notre Dame High and UCLA, finished third in the rookie-of-the-year voting in the Continental Basketball Assn. In 48 games for the La Crosse Catbirds, Miguel averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.4 assists.

The rookie of the year was Michael Adams of the Bay State Bombardiers. Adrian Branch of the Baltimore Lightning finished second.

Larry Middleton, formerly of Taft High and Valley College, finished the 1985-86 season as Clemson’s No. 2 scorer with an average of 11.4 points a game.

Middleton, who twice earned all-state honors at Valley, started 22 games for the Tigers and scored in double figures 21 times. He scored 27 points in his best game. Clemson (19-15) finished seventh in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Chris Reese, formerly of Saugus High, has been selected to the All-Mid-Ohio Conference and the all-NAIA District 22 honorable mention teams after helping the Cedarville College of Ohio basketball team to a 22-10 record.

Reese averaged 16.3 points per game and scored in double figures in 26 of 31 games. He shot 47% from the field and 90% from the free throw line.

Former Royal High and Moorpark College pitcher Eric King, who was attempting to make the Detroit Tigers’ major league roster, was optioned to the minors Monday.

In his last appearance, he allowed four earned runs in six innings Saturday.

In three games this spring, King was 1-0 with a 4.50 earned run average. He pitched 12 innings, allowed 11 hits and had 2 strikeouts. He will begin the season with the club’s Triple-A affiliate in Nashville, Tenn.

Former Kennedy High catcher Phil Lombardi was optioned last week to the New York Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate in Columbus, Ohio. Lombardi, 23, played with the organization’s Double-A team in Albany, N.Y. last season.

The third annual Conejo Valley Days Bike Ride, sponsored by the Bicycling Center in Thousand Oaks, will be staged April 19. The race features a 25-mile course, a 62-mile course and a 100-mile course.

The Pride Bowl, a charity football game between members of Ventura County police departments and the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department is scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. at Thousand Oaks High.

All proceeds will be donated to the Make A Wish Foundation, which grants requests to terminally ill children. Admission is $4. Children under 12 will be admitted free.

Cal Lutheran center fielder Scott Francis has been named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics District 3 player of the week. In six games, Francis was 12 for 23 for a .522 average, scored 14 runs, had 4 doubles, and 5 runs batted in. He also extended his hitting streak to 11 games. Francis, who entered the week batting .306, was hitting .390 by week’s end.
