O’Grady Files One of His Responses
Mac O’Grady filed a response to proposed disciplinary action against him by the PGA Tour Friday.
A tour spokesman acknowledged that O’Grady has responded to the first of three proposed disciplinary actions which could carry the most severe penalties levied against a player in more than a decade--up to $12,000 in fines and up to 12 weeks of suspension.
“Since the three actions are related,” the source said, Commissioner Deane Beman will consider all three actions together, and no immediate action will be taken.
Friday was the deadline for O’Grady’s response to the first action. Details of that response were not divulged. Deadlines for response to the other two proposed actions fall in the next two weeks, so any decision on O’Grady’s penalties will be delayed until that time, the source indicated.
Beman said last week that, although he made public the proposed severe penalties against the player, any further action--including fines and/or suspension--”will be treated as a private matter” and will not be announced.
