The body of a 19-year-old man was found under a pile of construction scaffolding that collapsed when it was hit by a car driven by a drunk driving suspect. Witnesses held the driver at the scene of the accident, in the 6500 block of Compton Avenue, and later turned him over to California Highway Patrol officers. Workmen arriving to clean up the damage several hours later discovered the body of a man identified as Reuben Gonzalez, 19, of South Los Angeles buried in the debris, and deputies said he had evidently been killed by falling scaffolding. CHP Officer Janet Engler refused to identify the driver of the car.
