There will be a sixth New Year’s Day bowl game. The Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla., will be switched from Dec. 27 to Jan. 1 and will be televised by ABC-TV beginning at 9 a.m. (PST), network and Orlando bowl officials announced.
The telecast of the 41st Citrus Bowl will begin 1 1/2 hours before the Fiesta and Cotton bowl games go on the air. The Fiesta is televised by NBC and the Cotton by CBS.
The Jan. 1 telecast is scheduled opposite the Rose Bowl Parade, carried by NBC and CBS.
Boosted by the new television agreement, the 1987 Citrus Bowl payoff should to exceed the $750,000 paid to each team last year and could approach $1 million for each team.
