The theft of a toilet has resulted in a $6,000 fine and an order for a former Los Angeles Housing Authority official to perform 22 hours of community service. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Aurelio Munoz placed William Palmer, 54, of Compton on three years’ probation and gave him a 360-day sentence in County Jail. The jail sentence will be suspended if he pays the fines and performs the community service. A complaint filed by Deputy Dist. Atty. James Koller also charged Palmer with embezzling $2,687 in lumber and using $387 in Housing Authority funds to rent a dump truck. The toilet was valued at $489, Koller said. Palmer pleaded guilty to one count involving the toilet on Feb. 26, at the start of his preliminary hearing. The other two counts were dismissed by Munoz. Prosecutors said the toilet and lumber were to be used in Palmer’s Riverside County home.
