A Placentia woman and her daughter were killed Saturday morning when their car was struck by a train in Anaheim.

The Orange County coroner’s office identified the victims as Fatemeh Javadzadeh, 34, and her daughter, Behnoz, 2.

Anaheim police said the accident occurred at 11 a.m. on train tracks near Orangethorpe Avenue and Imperial Highway. Police said Javadzadeh had stopped her car for a red light with the rear of the car extending over the train tracks.

As she waited for the light to change, police said, an eastbound train approached, sounding its horn. The guard arm for the railroad crossing then lowered across the street behind the car. The police report said no traffic was stopped in front of Javadzadeh’s car, but that she did not move forward as the train approached.

The engineer tried to stop the train, but it hit the rear of the car, police said. The woman and child were ejected onto the pavement. Both were pronounced dead at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Anaheim.
