Guard Sidney Moncrief of the Milwaukee Bucks was the leading vote-getter for the NBA’s all-defensive team, as chosen by the coaches.

The first team also consisted of forwards Paul Pressey of Milwaukee and Kevin McHale of Boston, center Mark Eaton of Utah and guard Maurice Cheeks of Philadelphia. The second team was made up of forwards Michael Cooper of the Lakers and Bill Hanzlik of Denver, center Manute Bol of Washington and guards Alvin Robertson of San Antonio and Dennis Johnson of Boston.
