Readers Put Down Columnist and Column

I realize every sportswriter has an opinion, and that’s his or her right. As far as I am concerned, Mike Downey has a poison pen and a big mouth.

Anyone who watched the fight last week knows that Larry Holmes was the winner. Downey said that Holmes is now on his way to Palookaville. Don’t bet on that because Holmes has made enough money to be set for the rest of his life, and he deserves it. If Michael Spinks represents the championship in the heavyweight division, then boxing is really hurting. I know when the great boxing champions are mentioned, Larry Holmes is up there with the best of them.
